FB stories, now with ads

With video content on the rise, Facebook announced that ads on Stories would become the norm for many users. Now it has come to reality along with Messenger Stories, which could seem like they are the same thing, however from a marketing point of view it’s important that we mark a difference between them. If we take a good hard look at Messenger, you have access to many people you don’t have in Facebook and vice versa.

Taking down the king

As we know, the option of creating video content was an experiment created in the wake of Snapchat’s great success, to the point that Instagram, Facebook and even Whatsapp are quickly taking down the once-giant of short videos. In may only, Facebook Stories reported 150 million users daily, while Whatsapp Status and Instagram Stories have arrive to the 450 million and 400 million mark respectively compared to the 188 million Snapchat had even after the many new additions to its platform on the past year.

Everyone is telling stories

Well, at least the younger audiences are. It seems that stories are very popular amongst Millennials and Gen Z who, aside from being the ones who create most stories, are also the ones that consume them the most. We are looking at a 48% of Millennials who watch Facebook Stories regularly and 34% of Gen Z, which tells us of the great importance of ads in this format and explains the interest of Facebook to offer more and better platforms for them. Facebook informed of their own numbers, part of an investigation conducted by Ipsos which says that 68% of the users assure they use stories in at least three different apps and 63% plans to use them in the future, also 38% claim that after looking at a product in stories they have talked to other people about it and 34% went to the store directly to look at it.

Forging the brand

Brands like KFC, Kettle Chips and iHeartRadio have already tried FB Stories and the results have been great, The brands report a boost on brand recognition thanks to the video ads on stories. It’s important to remember that new technologies on video for augmented reality and 360 are in the horizon, so it’s a must to be familiar with this tool as soon as possible to get the most out of it going forward.
