Google adds new tools straight from social media

The internet has been in constant movement in preparation for the holidays. Although Google has been adding a few things here and there, they didn’t seem as big as the stuff social media is doing. Now, just one week before december comes along, Google has decided to roll a couple of very interesting tools: hashtags and social posts.

Hashtags invade Google

The hashtag is one of the oldest tools in social media, created on Twitter by Chris Messina, it has helped us create Calls to Action for user generated content while also providing an easier route to conversations about a specific subject. But, are there hashtags in Google Search?, the search engine added a year ago the ability to include keywords on search reviews, now we can also use hashtags to make searches simpler. Now, Google didn’t actually announced this new function, however it has been rolling for a couple of weeks now, also they suggested to keep the limit to 5 hashtags and that it’s always better to incorporate them at the end of the text, keeping simplicity in mind for the search engines. Finally, they can also be added to old reviews, leading to an easier simpler search.

Google, now with Christmas cards

For Google, redesigning or offering temporal festive designs is not a necessity, like in social media. After all, in Google text is what matters. However, Google won’t just stay out of the festivities and has chosen to offer Christmas automatic generated posts for social media and “Google MyBusiness”, and not only that, they are also offering Christmas themed posters, stickers and tabletops printed with our brand’s reviews, opening hours, a call to action for reviews and Google searches along with a video with the highlights of our brand created by them. All of this, completely free and limited to one per company, which has to be registered in Google.

Off and On

As we have spoken about before, Google is hoping to close more and more the bridge between the online and offline behavior. This is only a small taste of what could be the future, because getting those posters, sticker, and all on out there on strategic places could improve our Google Search KPI while, at the same time, improving conversions, and the best part of it all is that the investment is very low for both brand, perfect symbiosis!  And well, it’s also a pretty big bonus to help bring the Christmas spirit to our clients.
